Costa Rica
The country of Costa Rica is located in Central America between Nicaragua in the North and Panama in the South. It is an ecologically rich country that holds 6% of the whole worlds biodiversity in an area smaller than West Virginia. The citizens and government of Costa Rica are intent upon protecting the biological treasures of their country for all to enjoy. Costa Rica has one of the premiere certification programs for sustainable hotels in the world, and one of the most supportive Tourism Boards in Latin America. Costa Rica is also one of the safest countries in the world. They have abolished their military and have had democratic elections for the past 50 years. Because of Costa Rica's economic success they have been able to develop a sufficient infrastructure of roads, airports and ferries that make getting around easy and inexpensive. Adding to the ease of travel, the people of Costa Rica, the Tico's, are friendly and helpful. Their warm and welcoming attitudes improve the quality of traveling exponentially. Although it is not necessary to speak Spanish, as the Tico's are often proficient in English, it is useful to know a few key phrases if only for the purpose of impressing them.
Lastly, the activities that Costa Rica offers are endless. A quarter of the country is protected by either national or private reserves that conserve the environment and wildlife. There are many ways to experience these reserves and whether you are hiking or horseback riding the beauty of the Costa Rican wild is stunning. In addition to observing nature, there are lots of adventurous ways to experience it as well. Destinations all over Costa Rica offer activities such as white water rafting, waterfall diving, cliff rappelling and tree climbing. All these activities can be experienced in an environmentally sustainable and safe way. These are just a few of the reasons that we have chosen Costa Rica as a starting point for our association. It is a magical country that we have chosen to help protect and share with the world.
