Hotel Belmar is a unique mountain hotel that consists of two Austrian Chalet style buildings with wood paneling and French doors. They are one of the first hotel’s accommodating guests in the Monteverde area. The Hotel offers spectacular views and personalized service in a comfortable yet rustic atmosphere. The hotel is owned by the Belmar family who has dedicated their lives and business to educating their guests and in turn the world about the importance of ecological consciousness. They have built their hotel on this philosophy and have worked to ensure that their impact on the Costa Rican environment is light. All meals served at the hotel are made with locally produced goods, and all decorations showcase local community art. Activities
The hotel’s location adjacent to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Preserve provides the guest with an abundance of activities to participate. The preserve has a network of trails that you a can explore and try to get a glimpse of the elusive Resplendent Quetzal, which nests in the cloud forest habitat. These nature walks let you see many different rainforest species in their natural habitat. Other animals may include many species of hummingbirds, morpho butterflies, howler monkeys, and much more. For the more adventurous there are canopy tours, that include skywalks and zip line adventures as well as horse back rides and amphibian tours. In the evening a guided night tour of the area can be planned to look for and listen to the nocturnal animals that come out and feed when the sun goes down. |
Accommodations
The Austrian Chalet architecture of both building structures provides beautiful natural looking rooms decorated with local or Costa Rican furnishings that have balconies overlooking the mountains and cloud forest. There are single and double rooms with private baths that can sleep up to four people. The second or main building was built due to the growth of tourism and houses a large dining room serving an infusion of fresh locally grown and produced Costa Rican food. These delicious dinners are popular and well known among the Monteverde community that it is served to both guests staying at the hotel and walk-up clients alike. Afterwards you can relax and soak in a covered Jacuzzi. |

Commitment to Sustainability
Hotel Belmar is committed to the environment and the development of the local community in a responsible way. Hotel Belmar has a program where they teach local children to swim at the community pool. Apart from displaying local works of art throughout the hotel and selling them in at their gift shop, they also invite these local artists to the hotel and show their works or play their songs in a mini concert. Because Hotel Belmar is located close to Monteverde, talking about and educating the traveler about the cloud forest is a key part of their sustainability and preserving this unique place. |
Location
Hotel Belmar is located 105 miles north west of San Jose in the town of Monteverde. It is possible to drive or take a bus to Belmar in about 5 hours. Also there are buses from Guanacaste, Puntarenas and Tilaran. The last hour of the trip is uphill on the side of a mountain but has some of the best views in the country.
Rates
Rates at the hotel range from $70 to $90 for single and double rooms including breakfast. Please remember to include the 16.4% government sales tax. |
