Description
Selva Verde is a charming and rustic rainforest lodge, dedicated to educating its guests on the wonders and natural beauty of Costa Rica's unique and fragile tropical rainforest. Beyond its roughly 500 acres of preserved rainforest, the lodge boasts a resident naturalist, local guides and an ever-expanding reference library. Additionally the lodge provides delicious meals featuring the local cuisine are served in an open dining room with a thatched roof that is in harmony with the jungle setting. Selva Verde’s location in the middle of virgin forest gives the visitor an opportunity to experience untouched nature and true Costa Rican beauty.
Activities
The rainforest provides visitors with an abundance of challenging and exciting activities. The lodge can set up guided nature hikes in their network of trails that range from the easy hike to look at the poison dart frogs to the very difficult all day hike. With some of the best whitewater rapids running through their property, rafting tours of the Sarapiqui River can be arranged. Also, guided butterfly and birding tours can be organized for the novice and experts alike. The staff at Selva Verde is well informed and dedicated.

The Lodge provides ample accommodations with 40 double (or triple occupancy) rooms with private baths and showers and 5 quadruple rooms with shared facilities. The dining area is located near the river in an open-air dining room that serves fresh local cuisine in large portions.
Commitment to Sustainability
Selva Verde and the Sarapiqui Conservation Learning Center, which has its offices and classrooms on the Selva Verde property, work together to educate the traveler on the rainforest and the people who live there by organizing programs with the local community. Selva Verde also donates money to the learning center, in which they implement after school programs for the local children and conduct training workshops for local businesses. The buildings of Selva Verde are incorporated within the rainforest on platforms and elevated walkways on high traffic areas to minimize erosion.
