Description
Vista del Valle is a self-described “plantation inn” that sits on the edge of a 500-ft cliff in the Central Valley. Although close to San José, this Inn feels miles away from the bustle of the city. It is surrounded on three-sides by coffee and orange plantations and on one side by the Rio Grande Canyon Nature Preserve. The setting is perfect for a relaxing vacation filled with quiet evenings on one of the verandas taking in the views and tropical air. Owners Mike and Johanna Bresan have taken extreme care in creating an ecologically sensitive and beautiful environment for their guests. In addition to the hundreds of acres of coffee and fruit plantations, the grounds consist of 12 acres of botanical gardens with an incredible selection of exotic tropical fruit. The garden trails provide a pleasant way to explore and enjoy nature (this is a great place for bird watching). Whether your dining poolside, exploring the reserve, or taking a tour of the coffee plantations Vista del Valle’s charm and beauty is evident. |

Activities
Vista del Valle in the Central Valley puts it in close proximity to many adventurous and fun day trips. Whether your interested in rafting, bungee jumping, volcano tours, cloud forests, or simply checking out the sites in San José, Vista del Valle can help arrange a tour for you. There is also an abundance of activities to do at Vista del Valle. We are located near a 300-ft waterfall and the Canyon Nature Preserve, which provides many hiking trails and opportunities to check out local wildlife. |
Accommodations
Vista del Valle provides a few different lodging options. Guests have the option of staying in the main house in suites with private baths and balcony, or if privacy is what you are after, we have a number of quaint, Japanese-style cottages.
These thatch roof huts overlook the preserve all have the modern conveniences but are charmingly rustic and integrated into the Costa Rican environment. Each room has combinations of king and queen beds with double sized pull out futons. The suites can hold up to three people while the cottages can fit up to four or five people. |

Commitment to Sustainability
Owner Mike Bresnan came to Costa Rica in the 1960’s as a Peace Corp volunteer in community development. His love of the country and community service brought him and his wife back in 1988 to open their charming inn.
Their desire to help the community and environment of Latin American has manifested itself in different ways. Mike has headed several relief and development organizations in Latin America and he currently heads projects in Nicaragua and oversees a non-profit organization that assists and provides loans for micro enterprises. Additionally, they are equally important to their own Costa Rican community. They planted and harvest an organic garden to ensure their guests get the healthiest meals possible. Most importantly they work with people in the community to ensure the health of their local environment and hire Costa Rican natives to work at the inn to support the local economy. |
Location/ Getting There
The Central Valley is a lush plateau that is known for its beautiful and productive coffee plantations and abundance of tropical fruit crops. The inn is located just 25 minutes from the San Jose International Airport and is happy to arrange a pickup at anytime day or night. It is also possible to drive and the inn will provide you with detailed driving directions if necessary.
Rates
The rates range from $140 to $160 a night for a single or double. During the green season, which is May 1st to June 30th and Sept 1st to Nov 15th the Vista del Valle gives customers staying three days a 5% discount and those staying seven days a 10% discount. Remember to add 16.4% tax to these rates. |
